Polar bear scientists and managers, especially in dealing with harvested populations, have been involved in the development and use of three different types of software packages. These packages could, in a given situation, be useful tools for other scientists and managers out there. This is the reason for PBSG wanting to facilitate the availability and distribution of this software.
The following software packages can be downloaded from the website of the Natural Resources DNA Profiling and Forensics Centre of Trent University in Peterborough, Canada:
Program for doing analyses of polar bear standing age distributions. The program also provides estimates of recruitment parameters that serve as input to RISKMAN. Specific to polar bear and grizzly bear analysis.
Program for life history analysis of animal populations. New version available from Jan 31, 2007.
Program for calculating harvest quotas based on number of males and females, and harvest records. Specific to polar bear and grizzly bear analysis.
